Presentation ... WHAT?!?!
Who would have thought that I would get a great lesson in Art class? I am understanding more about what I need to do to help my students understand why we present to each other in my class. We learn from each other. Yes, we may dread getting up in front of the class and yes, we may not really want to talk about what we did, but it is part of the learning process. We learn when we are teaching. We learn when we think about what we are going to say and how we are going to say it.
As far as today, my opinions of JBHM were confirmed. My school district needs to do away with it all together. The representative from MDE, Mr. Vincent Segalini, did a great job of explaining the ELA of CCSS and how it affects us as teachers. I would love for him to come present a professional development session to my faculty. We have had no preparation whatsoever when it comes to really understanding CCSS and how it works in our classrooms. I love teaching because it allows me to change the way that I do things. I can rethink a concept or lesson and revamp it to meet different needs and to keep me interested. If I am not interested in something because it is my 3rd or 4th time to teach it, how do I expect to engage my students and have them to find it interesting? Why do people choose to be teachers? There are never enough hours in the day and no, we don't get paid for all of the time that we invest in what we do. You have to do it because you want to.
Dr. Lee introduced us to Canvas and Social Bookmarking Tools. For me, the month of July is going to be spent debriefing and working on all of this great technology that I want to incorporate into my classroom and share with my colleagues.
